Inside the Trial Class

Forty-five minutes
with a working coach.

You're welcome to sit in. Most parents do for the first ten minutes - then step away once the coach has their student's attention.

15 Min

Read

Coach brings a grade-matched article. They read it together, unpack vocabulary, and discuss what it's actually saying.

15 Min

Write

Student writes a timed response to a prompt drawn from the reading. Coach watches the process, not just the output.

15 Min

Edit live

Coach edits the draft on-screen while the student watches. Tracked changes, narrated reasoning, transferable moves.

Trial fee is credited toward any program you enroll in afterward.

The Artifact

What is the WritingGrowth Index?

The WGI is a 1-to-1600score benchmarking your student's writing against a coach-calibrated rubric built from 12,000+ graded drafts.

It isn't an algorithm. A Letterly coach reads the whole draft, scores each of six dimensions, and writes the feedback you see. The number is the summary - the report is the substance.

Readiness

Tells you which Letterly program will push - not overwhelm - your student.

Benchmarks

Re-score at every milestone to see what's actually changing.

Coach Feedback · Strengths

  • +Sharp topic sentences anchor each paragraph - you're clearly writing with a point in mind.
  • +Unusual vocabulary choices ("threadbare," "gravitate") used correctly and in context.

Areas to Strengthen

  • Transitions between paragraphs feel abrupt; the reader loses the thread in the middle third.
  • Claims need more textual evidence - aim for one cited moment per argument.

What Parents Say

“The trial class was the first time in years that someone told us, specifically, what my daughter needed to work on. Her coach didn't just grade - she taught.”

Common Questions

Before you start.

Grades tell you how a draft did against one rubric on one day. The WGI scores six specific dimensions (ideas, structure, vocabulary, voice, mechanics, evidence) on a fixed scale, so you can see exactly where your student sits and what to work on.

Ready When You Are
