The Journal: For Kids, By Kids
Your provided text is clear and compelling, with a minor adjustment for flow and clarity:

Our student-run magazine connects students with the latest in news, arts, sports, and more—all while letting their creativity shine. With articles selected by their peers, our goal is to keep students engaged with the world around them and their larger community.

Letterly aims to work with community partners to ensure every student has access to personalized literacy coaching. Through our year-round program, our goal is for your students to read, write, and get published every week by receiving individual feedback from our instructors.

How It Works

01.

Finding Time to Write

Register with us for your introductory meeting. We will ask you to find a weekly ~60-minute time slot for your students to gather & write.

02.

Select a Prompt

Students will be presented with a number of reading prompts for the week that cover news, arts, sports, or fiction. They will select one.

03.

Write Your First Draft

After reading the article or story from the prompt, it's now time to write! Students have around 45 minutes to write and article or story.

04.

Submit & Get Feedback

Students submit their work at the end of the session.  Afterwards, students will be given in-depth feedback on their first draft.

05.

Iterate & Get Published

Students can fix their article based on the feedback. If so, our editors will provide a final copyedit and get their article to publication! 🎉

Proven Results Based on The Journal

Based on the 50,000 drafts that our students have submitted, we know that the most important factors for improving literacy skills are engagement and recognition.

Hear What Our Students Have to Say!

EWJ is unlike any other program I've done before because it gives me the unique opportunity to not only receive daily feedback, but also see my works published ... I'm glad I found this program, and I highly recommend it!

I recently won 5 Scholastic writing awards in the Midwest region from the creative writing pieces that I did during the summer journal writing sessions (2 gold keys, 1 silver, 2 honorable mentions)!

EWJ definitely set me on the path to fixing my study habits. Though I still find myself submitting near midnight, I haven't missed as many assignments as before. I would 100% recommend EWC to people who want to both fix their study habits and improve their writing.

Reading and writing used to be something Kevin hated the most. After taking EWJ, Kevin has gained so much confidence and grown to love writing. He said, ‘I’m not afraid of writing anymore!’ He asked to take EWJ again this summer.

I really enjoyed the camp! The deadlines really helped with my laziness and gave me a sense of urgency...The articles are well-balanced and I love how we have different topics and articles to choose from. This camp helped me a lot with my vocabulary, flow and structures in writing.

I loved my time at EWJ! Even though the pacing is very rigorous, I enjoyed sitting down everyday to write! Thank you EWJ for helping me improve my writing skills in a fun and engaging way!

EWJ makes you love reading and writing. Also, you get to learn new stuff and research. EWJ made me feel more comfortable with writing and reading.

I cannot believe it, but my phenomenal four weeks here as a staff writer for EWC have elapsed within the blink of an eye. I still look back on my previous essays and see that I have made vast improvement... This camp has started a new, unforgettable chapter in my life. I have faith that the articles I have written will take me far.
