Course Syllabus
Annotated Reading
As you read The Giver, analyze the impact of characterization, word choice, and author’s point of view. Acquire new vocabulary using context clues and apply your knowledge of new note-taking techniques.
Applied Grammar
Dive deep into the contrast between independent and dependent clauses. Learn how to clean up run-on sentences and properly combine multiple clauses.
Building Paragraphs
Practice the principle of unity between paragraphs and develop smooth transitions between narrative sections. Revisit expository paragraphs with a touch of descriptive language.
Final Project
Write a literary response of your own, beginning with an outline and mapping ideas onto narrative text. Strengthen your stance and revise your response with an editing exercise.
